What is Pressotherapy?

Pressotherapy is a modern, effective and painless lymphatic drainage method with a strong therapeutic effect in the treatment of cellulite and fatty deposits in the body.

How does it work?

In Pressotherapy special applicator sleeves with multiple overlapping chambers provide a gentle massage that encourages the natural circulation of the lymph through the body. Pressotherapy activates the passive part of the circulation- the veins and lymph vessels and stimulates drainage of accumulated toxins to scavenging organs. Absorbs swellings and has release and analgesic effects. The pressotherapy stimulates the muscles, eliminates tiredness and helps recovery after exercise and after prolonged bilization. Activation of muscle tone reduces fat deposits in the thighs, hips and waist. It is recommended for cellulite, obesity, in weight and fatigue in the legs as a result of impaired blood flow and swelling of limbs. It provides total relaxation and complete recovery of the body.

What are the benefits?

    How does it work?

    The human lymphatic system is responsible for removing interstitial fluid from tissues. It absorbs and transports fatty acids and fats throughout the circulatory system and transports antigen-presenting cells to the lymph nodes where the immune response is stimulated. Diseases and problems of the lymphatic system usually cause swelling, fatty deposit and other symptoms.Lymphatic drainage unblocks lymphatic ducts and vessels. This causes the natural flow of the lymph from the peripheral parts of the body and reduces swelling,  pain, and cellulite deposit caused by the excessive amount of the lymph and metabolites in the limbs. Contrary to popular belief, fat that is not removed from an area after a lipolytic (fat releasing) cellulite treatment, is typically re-absorbed by the adipocytes, thereby diminishing the effectiveness of the treatment. Because pressotherapy helps prevent this re-absorption, it is the ideal companion to all other cellulite treatments as it enhances their effectiveness.
          Because all types of cellulite are characterized by water retention (only the severity of water retention varies), you will always experience results with pressotherapy, even as a sole treatment. Only the degree of improvement will vary. Of course, if you combine pressotherapy with a lipolytic or skin firming cellulite treatment, you will always experience good results, regardless of your type of cellulite.
          In fact, pressotherapy can enhance the effectiveness of literally any cellulite treatment by expediting the transportation of fat released by the adipocytes (fat cells) away from the cellulite tissues.

          Cellulite is partially a problem of poor circulation/water retention and consequent toxin accumulation/inflammation, so anything that boosts blood circulation/lymph drainage (and thereby aids detoxification and inflammation reduction) can decrease cellulite too.

          Different women have different types of cellulite. If your type of cellulite is characterized by excess water retention/inflammation you will experience good results very fast after a pressotherapy course. Conversely, if your cellulite is characterized by a lot of fat accumulation, lack of skin firmness or a lot of fibrosclerosis (connective tissue hardening), then a pressotherapy session will still provide results, but it will have to be combined with vigorous cellulite-specific massage or other quality cellulite treatment.

          Pressotherapy is a body treatment that is typically used to reduce or eliminate cellulite

          Cellulite consists of small pockets of fat that are located just beneath the skin’s surface that results in slight lumps or indentations on the skin, particularly on the legs and buttocks in women. The treatment is based on the concept that deep physical stimulation may be able to break down the buildup of fat pockets underneath the skin and give skin a smoother appearance.
          Spas or beauty salons are generally the most common places that offer Pressotherapy. The process begins with an electronic cuff that is attached to a computer, then placed securely around each leg. A trained technician then turns on each electronic cuff, which fills with air and sends light pressure onto each leg. The pressure is designed to simulate a deep massage that uses enough pressure to reach beneath the surface of the skin. Each Pressotherapy session typically lasts around 30 minutes and is recommended to be repeated weekly for about eight weeks.
          Advocates of Pressotherapy believe the deep skin pressure and stimulation may help to promote proper blood flow. If blood flows properly throughout the body, it is thought to possibly prevent swelling of internal body tissues by ensuring they are exposed to as much oxygen as possible. Receiving enough oxygen may help restore any damaged tissues and make the skin feel tighter and prevent loose or floppy skin.
          In addition to being used for cosmetic purposes to smooth the texture of the skin, Pressotherapy may also be implemented as an option for certain medical conditions. People who have medical conditions that cause poor blood circulation, such as hypertension or diabetes, may have the therapy performed to attempt to promote better blood flow. Proper blood flow can help relieve numbness or pain in the limbs and prevent skin discoloration from lack of blood flow.

          Critics of Pressotherapy believe the treatment is unnecessary and expensive. The main problems the therapy claims to solve, cellulite and poor blood circulation, can often be treated with other more affordable options.

          Performing light physical activity, such as walking or swimming, can help reduce body fat and lessen the appearance of bumpy areas of the skin’s surface. Exercise may also improve poor blood circulation by constantly pumping the blood throughout the body. Dietary changes, such as reducing the amount of sodium, can also prevent the body from holding onto excess water and promote blood flow and tightened skin.

          Results may vary from person to person as well as overall satisfaction.

          Patients with the following conditions may not undergo pressotherapy:

          · Acute inflammation (caused by bacteria, viruses, poisons or allergens);

          · Thrombosis and phlebitis;

          ·  Major heart problems;

          ·  Osteosynthesis or joint replacement in lymphatic paths;

          • Cancer;
          • Renal insufficiency;
          • Cardiac insufficiency;

          What are the pre-and post-treatment recommendations to ensure the best possible results?

          • Wear comfortable, easy access clothing (such as a bathing suit) for treatment access and ease of electrode placement.
          • No make-up, creams / lotions on skin; no jewelry or other metal adornments. Skin should be clean and dry.
          • Drink increased liquids (8 glasses of water) 1-3 days before, the day of and the day after treatment (for body shaping).
          • Mild exercise (e.g. walking or light jogging, etc.) is beneficial on same day after treatment (for body shaping).

          How many sessions will I need?

          Depending on what is being treated, and what condition the body is in, sessions can range from 30 to 50 minutes. You will need to do an average of 2 -3 sessions per week for 1.5 to 2 months.

          What should I expect after the session?

          Behandeling:

          Voor de behandeling van lymfoedeem zijn er diverse mogelijkheden. In Praktijk 22 wordt er een behandelplan opgesteld, waarbij de diverse behandelingen goed op elkaar zijn afgestemd.
          Met de 3 - D pressotherapie wordt druk uitgeoefend met behulp van een pomp met een luchtgevulde, meer-kamer pak; jas,broek en armen, om zo vocht uit een oedeemgebied te verplaatsen.
          De druk in het pak met deels overlappende kamers - zorgt alleen voor verplaatsing van vocht vanuit de weefselruimtes naar de romp. De druk heeft geen invloed op het lymfestelsel zelf. Deze behandeling wordt gewoonlijk één tot twee keer per week toegepast..
          Goede resultaten worden er bereikt in combinatie met Ultrasound en de vacuümbehandeling.

          Een aanverwante aandoening is lip oedeem, een erfelijke vetverdelingstoornis die vrijwel alleen voorkomt bij vrouwen. Niet alleen is er hier sprake van ongelijk verdeelde vetophoping in de benen, of op de heupen, ook gaat het gepaard met pijn, blauwe plekken, vermoeidheid en meestal is er ook sprake van obesitas. De behandeling van lymf oedeem en lipoedeem komt grotendeels overeen omdat de bij lipoedeem opgehoopte vetcellen het lymfsysteem vertraagt.
